PTFE membrane filters come in 0.22 μm and 0.45 μm pore sizes. Nylon is resistant to a range of organic solvents and suitable for use with high pH samples. Nylon may bind proteins, which makes it unsuitable for protein recovery applications.

They are well suited for rapid, routine syringe filtration of small volume samples up to 10ml in laboratory sample prep.
