- Ofloxacin is a synthetic fluoroquinolone antibiotic that is an analog of nalidixic acid
- Ofloxacin can directly interact with pneumococcal autolysin (LytA) at its choline binding domain, thus inhibiting the ability of LytA to degrade the pneumococcal cell wall
- Ofloxacin is racemic and its (S)-enantiomer is levofloxacin
