Syringe Filters Selection and Use
The Acrodisc Syringe filters can be used for a variety of applications; media filtration, clarification, prefiltration, sample clean-up, virus filtration, protein purification or mycoplasma reduction.
To find the syringe filter that meets your application needs, consider the sterility requirements, the poor size needed, and the membrane type compatible to your process solution. Make sure to also choose a syringe filter with the necessary sample volume throughput.
The Acrodisc syringe filters feature a prefilter for an improved filtration of difficult solutions. They are available with Supor membrane offering higher fluid flow rates and lower protein binding.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose the right syringe filter membrane?
This will depend on the type of solution to be filtered. For aqueous solutions, choose Nylon or MCE membranes. For non-polar solutions, choose Nylon, PTFE or PVDF membranes. For protein solutions, choose PVDF or PES membranes.
How do I choose the suitable filter diameter?
According to the volume of the sample. For sample volumes <10ml, choose a 13mm filter diameter. For sample volumes <100ml, choose a 25mm filter diameter. For sample volumes <250ml, choose a 33mm filter diameter.
How do I choose the suitable pore size?
Pore size is determined according to the size (in microns) of the particles that we want to separate. For more than 3µm, choose a filter membrane with a pore size 0.45µm and for less than 3µm, choose a poor size of 0.22µm. The lower the membrane micron rating the finer the filtration.
